Fredric J. Zeigler
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Zeigler has over 35 years experience in the technology industry. Prior to joining Medcotek, Mr. Zeigler was Director of CLEC Consulting Services at Solunet, Inc., a value added reseller of Internet service provider and telephony equipment with annual sales of $200 million. As Director, he was charged with the responsibility to initiate and grow a telecommunications consulting group. This group was successful from its inception. Within the first four months of operation the group exceeded its revenue goal and continued to grow.
Mr. Zeigler owned, managed and grew, along with business partners, Cathey Hutton & Associates ("CHA"), a small regional telecommunications consulting firm, to one of the top companies of its kind in the country with multi-million dollar annual fees. While at CHA, he assisted numerous Local Exchange Carriers to successfully start subsidiary CLEC operations and helped a South Pacific island nation implement a privatization plan for the government's telecommunications operation. He also managed a small, specialized staff that closed acquisition and merger projects totaling more than $750 million. Mr. Zeigler sold his CHA ownership when the company was merged with another consultancy with a combined merged value of $20 million.
Mr. Zeigler, along with the same CHA business partners, started CHA Systems in 1995. It was a customized software applications company. CHA Systems had a worldwide operation with several software sites in the Middle East and in the Pacific Basin. In the last year of operation, the Company approached $10 million in worldwide sales. The Company was sold in January 2001 for $30 million to a software company based in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Zeigler began his technology career with AT&T and after 21 years accepted an optional package for early retirement. During his tenure, he worked in most areas of telephony operations and when he left, Mr. Zeigler was an expert witness for AT&T regarding regulated utility financial operations. In this capacity, he testified before numerous state regulatory bodies as well as the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Mr. Zeigler earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting with Honors from University of Texas. Mr. Zeigler was also a practicing Certified Public Accountant who worked with Ernst & Young.
James A. Johnston
President
Mr. Johnston brings a wide spectrum of business acumen. He has proven experience not only in addressing the technology and finance, but also Sales and Marketing experience. Mr. Johnston's focus has been optimizing technology platforms to address productivity opportunities.
Mr. Johnston was President of DataSave, Inc. where he was responsible for daily operations of a company that provided clients with accounting services, computer systems, and software design services. Clients of DataSave included such companies as InterFirst Bank (now Bank of America), Resolution Trust Corporation, First Union National Bank, The Associates, and Freddie Mac.
In addition, Mr. Johnston was Chief Technical Consultant to Barclays American Mortgage Corporation. He was responsible for the overall management of its computer network and telecommunications, fixed asset disposition, facilities operations, and the design of custom computer software programs. The solution developed by Mr. Johnston was utilized by the Barclay’s World Wide Network of more than 100,000 users.
Mr. Johnston earned a BSBA in Marketing and Finance from Appalachian State University.
J. Carl Zeigler
SVP and Chief Information Officer
Mr. Zeigler is a successful IT operations and commercial software development executive with 20 years experience. He delivered high-value enterprise application products including the establishment of international standards and developed software lines of business. Prior to joining the Company he was an advisor to the North Carolina World Trade Center. In this capacity he advised the new Executive Director in restructuring the WTCNC, assisted in conducting programs, strategic planning, and promotion activities. This included directing the development of the organization's presence in western North Carolina and advised on and coordinated program development activities with regional government agencies.
Mr. Zeigler was Chief Technology Officer at Knowledge Vector Inc., a start-up company involved in developing new products for emergency and treat assessment applications. As the company's CTO Mr. Zeigler managed the technical development of the product line and was responsible for the ultimate delivery of a commercial grade product. He wrote sections of the business plan; created the product development plan; hired the development team and setup development processes.
At Midway Airlines Corporation Mr. Zeigler was the Chief Information Officer. As the CIO he was charged with seeing that technology served the business needs of the company. His responsibilities included developing all applications and computing infrastructure necessary to support the business. This included creating a data center; building primary and backup call centers; and expanding the company's WAN to support gate and ticket counter operations at airports, as well as basic office networks at headquarters, stations, and hub facilities. He built an airline operations center at Raleigh N.C. airport to support the operations of over 300 flights per day. His duties also included managing capital investment of $12 million in IT infrastructure and process engineering, as well as an annual operating budget of over $3 million.
In his career, Mr. Zeigler was Director of Engineering at Evoke Software Corporation and led all engineering and product development which resulted in delivery of the first commercial release of the software for the company in several years.
At SCO Inc., he was Director of Engineering/Vice President of Technology where he managed engineering programs to establish the technical requirements for the UNIXware Operating System.
Finally, he was Manager - Open Systems Research and Development at SAS Institute Inc. At SAS, Mr. Zeigler was responsible for developing the SAS System for UNIX based systems where his efforts contributed approximately $100 million per year to SAS's revenues through consistent on-budget and on-time delivery of products to customers.
Mr. Zeigler graduated with Bachelor of Science, Computer Science Degree from North Carolina State University in 1984.
